Members of the NTW are gearing up for our NTW Open House at Willow Draw, September 15, 2019. The event is open at no charge to members and non-members alike. It starts at 9:30 for our invited guests and as early as 8 am for NTW members who would like to drive. We have 4 separate sessions, each one presented by a recognized expert from the Texas carriage driving community.
Wendy O'Neill will demonstrate the sometimes neglected art of round penning. Wendy is a riding and driving instructor and a driving horse trainer based near Decatur, TX. Wendy's approach to round penning is based on solid fundamentals and exploits the horse's natural instinct. The audience will learn valuable skills to help them develop a strong working relationship with their own horses. She may have time to continue her demo with one or two additional horses.
Keith Yutzy will demonstrate a systematic process for safe harnessing and putting to (hitching). Keith has navigated for Intermediate Driver Linda Yutzy across the United States and he has represented the United States in international competition in 2008 when he navigated for Bill Peacock at the World Singles Driving Championship in Jarantow, Poland. Keith is an ADS R Technical Delegate and officiates at events across Texas and around the country, including the NTW Sunrise Ridge Driving Trial in Paradise, TX, the Tejas Black Star CDE, Let's Have Fun in Texas CDE, and the HACA Pine Hill Driving Trial. Keith is based in Brehnam, TX.
Linda Yutzy will demonstrate the art of safe driving and she will share her finely honed knowledge of safe training opportunities for the driving horse. Linda has successfully competed her Intermediate pair of Dartmoor ponies in CDEs from the midwest to the Florida coast. Linda is a past President of the Houston Area Carriage Association and Organizer of the Pine Hill Driving Trial in Bellville, TX. Linda scores Combined Driving Events across the United States, including of course NTW, Tejas, HACA, and OHHA events. Like her husband Keith, Linda is based in Brenham, TX.
Pam Farmer will provide guidelines for vehicle maintenance. This rather unglamorous topic is essential knowledge for anyone who wants to drive safely but lacks a staff of mechanics or stable hands. Pam is a carriage builder and a skilled restorer of sleighs and carriages. Pam's business, Tin Top Carriage, is an essential one-stop shop for anyone looking to get into carriage driving. Her knowledge of carriages and their suitability for various driving disciplines will help beginning drivers avoid costly mistakes. Pam will also highlight some of the carriage assessories she makes. Pam's home base is Weatherford, TX.
In addition to our presenters, many other members of the North Texas Whip will be on hand to share the day, lunch and ice cream floats with all our guests. NTW Members may bring their driving partners, hitch and drive the lovely grounds of the Willow Draw Equestrian facility in Weatherford, TX before and after the presentations. If you are interested to learn more about driving, please rsvp to firstname.lastname@example.org for the NTW Open House at Willow Draw (573 North Bend Road, Weatherford, TX 76085)!
